Apitong (Keruing)

This hardwood is probably the most well-known hardwood used for flooring flatbed trailers. Apitong or Keruing (scientific name is Dipterocarpus) has moderate strength and durability. The wood varies from light to dark red brown or brown to dark brown. There are over 70 species of Apitong found in Asia (Malaysia and Indonesia).

Angelim Pedra (Para Angelim)

This wood is a more affordable alternative to Apitong. Angelim Pedra (scientific name is Hymenolobium) grows in South America (Brazil, Guyana, and Suriname). It is a medium-density hardwood that is very durable and resistant to both fungi and termites. The wood is orange-brown to dark brown in color and has a coarse texture.

Purpleheart

Purpleheart (scientific name is Peltogyne) is an extremely strong and resilient hardwood. It is naturally durable with high resistance to decay and dry-wood termites. It grows in tropical South America and is unique among tropical hardwoods due to its distinctive purplish-colored heartwood.
